Team from Goa Institute of Management Bags Second Prize at the Prestigious Tata Crucible Quiz

Online, June 7, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Srijit Kumar and Saahil Sharma from Goa Institute of Management did their B School proud by bagging second position at the prestigious Tata Crucible. The event was held at Taj Vivanta in Panjim, Goa on the 18th of March, 2013 and attracted teams from several reputed colleges from different parts of the state. The event was hosted by acclaimed quizmaster Giri "Pickbrain" Balasubramaniam, who kept the proceedings of the day quite lively and entertaining.

While entertaining, the event was still all about the competition, and Tata Crucible is an event like no other. Its popularity amongst B Schools all over the country needs no recognitions and winning it is of course a big accolade. That's probably why the preliminary round of this year's competition saw a massive turnout of colleges. And, the teams were so keen on showing off their prowess and making an impression that they asked the Quizmaster not to offer them clues to answers.

Finally, there were six teams that made it to the final rounds, and three of them were from BITS Pilani, Goa. But it was the team from GIM that gave them all a run for their money. It was an even contest in the final round with the top teams from BITS Pilani, Goa and GIM going neck to neck till the very end. Eventually, after a tough competition, Srijit Kumar and Saahil Sharma bagged the second position and gave their institute a lot to cheer about, especially considering the enormity of the competition.

Not only did Srijit and Saahil win the second prize at the competition, they also went home with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. And, in a display of good character, the men of the hour intended to donate 30% of their winnings to their chosen charity. Now that says a lot about the finalists from GIM, who seem to be winners in the making, both in their personal and professional fronts. But for Srijit the experience in itself was the big win: "Being a part of Tata Crucible and getting to the finals, that's an experience worth keeping. It motivates us to go all out for future competitions and give them our best shot," he mentions.

Tata Crucible began as one of the events held in 2004 under the Century of Trust commemoration. It marked the 100th anniversary of the death of group founder Jamshedji Tata and 100th anniversary of the births of JRD Tata and Naval Tata. Over the last decade, the competition has gone from strength to strength and become a marquee event for B Schools all over the country.
