Taylor Emmons Scholarship Fund Raises Over $141,000 at 1st Annual Charity Golf Classic & Texas Hold 'Em Tournament

The Taylor Emmons Scholarship Fund, a non-profit organization, raised over $141,000 at its 1st Annual Charity Golf Classic & Texas Hold 'Em Tournament on January 28, 2012.

The Taylor Emmons Scholarship Fund, a non-profit organization that awards socio-economically diverse students with four-year scholarships to The Out-of-Door Academy, raised over $141,000 at its 1st Annual Charity Golf Classic & Texas Hold 'Em Tournament on January 28, 2012. The golf tournament was held at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, followed in the evening by a poker tournament at The Lake Club. Russell Legare II of Maine won the poker tournament, taking home a grand prize of $5,000 and the Champion Texas Hold 'Em Tournament bracelet.

The golf tournament was expanded to two courses to accommodate 214 players, including friends, family and members of the community who came out to commemorate the life of Taylor Emmons, a graduate of The Out-of-Door Academy whose life was cut tragically short in 2010 at the age of 19.

"Although the hole created by Taylor Emmons' absence can never be filled, his family and friends came together last weekend to contribute to a cause that would have made him proud," said Sandra Albano, Executive Director of the Taylor Emmons Scholarship Fund. "We are pleased to carry on Taylor's spirit by raising funds to provide scholarships for talented, socio-economically diverse students to experience a college preparatory education at The Out-of-Door Academy's Upper School."

Major sponsors of the event included The Green Foundation, Caldwell Trust Company and Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. Due to the success of this year's event, the 2nd Annual Charity Golf Classic & Texas Hold 'Em Tournament is already planned for Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. Those interested in sponsorship opportunities should contact Sandra Albano at salbano@temmons.org. The Taylor Emmons Scholarship Fund is also now accepting scholarship applications for the 2012-2013 school year.
