TAUS Hosts Industry Leaders Forum in Dublin on June 2-3

TAUS will be hosting its annual Industry Leaders Forum on June 2 and 3, 2014 at the Clontarf Castle Hotel in Dublin.

The TAUS Industry Leaders Forum is a unique gathering of around 60 directors of internationalization or globalization from global corporations and successful technology start-up companies, meeting with the owners and entrepreneurs from language service and technology provider companies. Their shared interest is to address common issues and challenges they face in creating more efficient translation processes.

"Entrepreneurs and workers in the language industry are hardly aware of the strategic function they fulfil in this time of 'hyperglobalization". says Jaap van der Meer, director of TAUS. "Politicians, businessmen and in fact consumers, citizens of the world, they all become more and more dependent on the language sector. This Forum is an ideal opportunity for decision makers to discuss common strategies and push innovation in the translation industry."

Industry leaders at the TAUS Forum in Dublin will discuss critical industry concerns on strategic, tactical and operational levels, such as the adoption of machine translation technology, geo-customization, interoperability, quality evaluation, data sharing, industry benchmarking, crowdsourcing. The objectives are to exchange views on strategies, define best practices, agree on common approaches and share metrics and resources. The Forum will be attended by companies like LinkedIn, Microsoft, Google, Adobe, Oracle, EMC, Cisco, TripAdvisor, Dell, Harley Davidson, Lionbridge, Moravia, Jonckers, Smartling, PTC, Welocalize.

The Forum will be opened with a debate between Nicholas Ostler, author of the book "The Last Lingua Franca", and Lane Greene, Economist editor and author of "You are what you speak", about the future of English and the role of technology in global communications.

"The language industry holds the key to the success of ever more globalizing business," says Wayne Bourland, director of localization at Dell and member of the TAUS Advisory Board. "The only way the global translation industry can scale up and deliver on the needs of the rapidly expanding customer base in many new markets, is by working together, agreeing on common approaches and sharing resources. TAUS offers a unique environment for this industry collaboration."

The Forum will be followed by the QE Summit on June 4. At the QE Summit companies will discuss the specific challenges of translation quality evaluation.
