Dr. Norman recognized for his contributions to the quality of healthcare in the Tampa Bay area.

Dr. James (Jim) Norman, a surgeon specializing in the treatment of parathyroid disease, was named the winner of the Tampa Bay Business Journal's annual Health Hero Award for Physicians. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that have the most significant impact on the quality of healthcare in their community.

Award winners were named in eight categories during the newspaper's annual celebration of the Tampa Bay health care community on October 13 to a packed house at the Mainsail Suites Hotel & Conference Center Tampa. The program, now in its eighth year, honors the bay area's most outstanding healthcare providers.

Dr. Norman is known as one of the world's leading authorities on parathyroid disease, hyperparathyroidism, and the surgical treatment of parathyroid tumors. Dr. Norman is the senior of three surgeons at the Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa, Florida, and is the Director of the Parathyroid Center at Tampa General Hospital, a recipient of a number of previous awards for its advanced treatment of parathyroid problems.

"I owe a lot of gratitude to my two partners Dr. Doug Politz and Dr. Jose Lopez" stated Dr. Norman. "We challenge each other every day to learn more about this disease and to find better, more efficient ways to treat our patients. This award is also a reflection of our teams at the office and at Tampa General Hospital. We have a lot of great people supporting our program from the hospital administration on down. We have become successful as a team."

Recipients of the Health Care Heroes awards were profiled in a special section of the TBBJ issued on October 14, 2011. Read more: 2011 Health Care Heroes - Tampa Bay Business Journal
