Half-way around the world, Tampa Bay Artist Jason Dowd recently premiered his beautiful and haunting artwork at Hong Kong's That Gallery Art Show.

As a published Photographer and two-time award-winning Artist, Jason Dowd faced his fears when he brought them to life with his collection Dreams, Nightmares, Fears, and Fantasy. The collection that captured the interests of artists locally and around the world began with inspiration from his father and from his own nightmares.

Born in Bristol, Connecticut, Jason Dowd literally hit the ground running, picking up a camera at the tender age of two.

His destiny was set.

"My father was an amateur photographer and I wanted to be just like him," Dowd explains.

Although he tried many different art forms, photography was his medium of choice.

"I liked photography because it is as real to me as my nightmares," Dowd says, "and I wanted to face my nightmares to defeat them."

The vivid images in his mind from his dreams are a big part of what led to his collection Dreams, Nightmares, Fears, and Fantasy.

To create a contrast to Dreams, and to mirror the pendulum swings of his thoughts, Dowd created another collection he calls Earth Angel.

His photograph of Jack Murphy Stadium won First Place in Art Fest '97 and his work has been featured in The Tampa Tribune and St. Petersburg Times.

"I use my photography as a way for people to see the world through my eyes. " Dowd says. "If you feel something, even if it's something negative, then I did my job."

Dowd doesn't just take pictures for his own profit or enjoyment however.

For the last six years, he has donated his time and efforts to The American Cancer Society, helping them raise money at the Cattle Baron's Ball. He did a fundraiser for the Pinellas County Humane Society, supports the American Diabetes Foundation, and volunteers with Big Brothers, Big Sisters.

The once haunted child has become an International Exhibiting Artist.

"The Hong Kong art show in has been an incredible experience for me," says Dowd, "both exciting and inspirational."
