Taiwan Public Television Service Sending Delegates to United States

Mac Business Solutions hosts seventeen television professionals fromTaiwanʼs national public broadcasting service, who have come to Washington D.C. to learn about the transition to DTV and HD video.

Washington, D.C. October 19, 2009 -- The Republic of Chinaʼs National Communications Commission (NCC) has decided to transition Taiwan to digital television. To help implement this plan, they are working through the Public Television Service (PTS) of Taiwan to send seventeen video professionals to Washington D.C.

From October 25th to November 13th, 2009, these delegates will be taking technical classes at Mac Business Solutions (MBS) and visiting institutions which work within the framework of High-Definition and Digital Video Production.

The Taiwanese guests will receive training in a variety of crucial subjects, including video format conversion, audio field recording, satellite news-gathering, shooting and editing in HD, creating graphics for HD, and digital broadcasting.

They will be visiting nationally renowned organizations such as the Federal Communications Commission, the National Association of Broadcasters, CNN, the Associated Press and PBS Affiliate WETA. They will also tour the facilities of cutting-edge local production and post-production houses, including Henninger Media Services, Interface Media Group, Team Video and Video Labs.

PTS made contact with the United States through a company in Santa Clara, CA called VideoJump. VideoJump acts as a liaison between Asian programming and North American distribution. Their aim is to serve the ethnic Asians in North America with content suited to their culture and language. CEO of VideoJump, Cecil Coe, formed a partnership with Mac Business Solutions to ensure that the Taiwanese television professionalsʼ time in D.C. is educational and experiential.

The Republic of China is tentatively scheduled to make the DTV transition in 2012. Taiwanʼs largest obstacle is their four major cable television systems, which are not supportive of carrying all digital channels.
