Tag Heuer Formula 1 Calibre S Chronograph 200M CAH7010.BA0854 Mens Watch

Tag Heuer Chronograph stands as the first watchmaker with a chronograph mechanism of unsurpassed precision that is equal to that of a digital watch.

Certain names do set the hearts aflutter. One of them is TAG Heuer and this time, it presents a real nifty model whose good looks are worth praising for.  The Tag Heuer Formula 1 Calibre S Chronograph 200M CAH7010.BA0854 Mens Watch is a follow up to the Formula 1 Grande Date; the chronograph version now dispenses the big-date part. Instead, it is a normal sized date display that exists now.

It’s no more the previous plain Swiss quartz movement; the Tag Heuer Formula 1 Calibre S Chronograph 200M CAH7010.BA0854 Mens Watch now embraces the newer Calibre S movement. It’s a quartz movement alright, but this time, it’s more sophisticated than the previous one and transforms the watch into a chronograph. What new things; therefore, are to be expected of the Calibre S?

This electro-mechanical quartz chronograph movement can split a second to its 1/100th part; beats at 32,768 Hz and comprises 5 independent motors that turn both ways (bidirectional). Inside, there are 28 rubies (jewels) and the perpetual calendar set to run until 2099. It has been designed and developed by TAG as a true in-house movement and is also the only quartz movement assembled by TAG Heuer. AS Jean-Christophe Babin (TAG Heuer CEO) describes it, the Calibre S is more complex than most mechanical movements because of its five bi-directional engines, each driving four wheels, which is more than in a mechanical watch. Assembling the hands on the bi-directional axes is also a very delicate job and one of the most difficult ones, too.

The watch has two retrograde dials that measure 1/10th and 1/100th of a second. This brings in ultra precision to its chronograph function. Tag Heuer Chronograph stands as the first watchmaker with a chronograph mechanism of unsurpassed precision that is equal to that of a digital watch. Once the chronograph functions are disengaged, the watch reverts to its time-telling mode. This is when the retrograde dials start indicating the date.

It doesn’t require a mention that everything about the new Tag Heuer Aquaracer Grande Calibre S Chronograph 200M CAH7010.BA0854 Mens Watch is an upgrade from the previous Formula 1 models. That includes the size (a whopping 44mm across and 11mm deep) and a complete absence of plastic on the case (it’s a metal bezel in black). The crystal is, as it is, sapphire.

On one side of the watch, there’s the Tag Heuer Aquaracer label, which looks cool. The metal bracelet is solid and sturdy while the dial is unbelievably clear and therefore, easy to read. Its bold look is refreshingly simple and sets it apart from a ton of other chronograph watches with busy faces.

To add the ending notes, let it suffice to say that the Calibre S is unique in the part of adding the two semi-circular sub-dials replacing the usual, traditional, circular registers. It’s been 10 years now that the Calibre S has been available and unlike other movements that are used in multiple watches, it is very easy to find out that one's is housing the Calibre S. The sub-dial layout is that easy to identify.
