Surviving the Sweltering Summer, Parker and Sons Opines

Residing in the valley of the sun, Phoenix, Arizona, has its benefits and deficiencies, most notably the ideal winter months and the horrifying infernal summer ones. But keep in mind that the summer spans roughly four months whereas the blissful climate of Arizona is ideal for eight: 70 degree temperatures, an arid atmosphere, and mesmerizing sunsets. But for how beautiful and perfect the winter climate can be, the summer is equally dangerous. Dehydration, exhaustion, and sun-poisoning are not uncommon. However, quality AC, a positive attitude, and a few simple precautions can sail you through the summer months and into eight months of perfection.

First off, hydration is an absolute necessity. Given the arid climate and the intense heat that occurs in the summer (120 degrees temperatures), it is highly advisable to remain ever vigilant about hydration. Drinking a gallon of water per day, abandoning excessive exercise routines (especially outdoor routines), and refraining from excessive caffeine and alcohol consumption can all be conducive to weathering the Arizona heat. If you notice any of the following symptoms you may be in danger of dehydration: dry mouth, dizziness, flushing of the skin, headaches, fainting, and confusion. If these symptoms become apparent, medical treatment is advisable.

“The summer months can be dangerous and we encourage everyone in Phoenix to drinking plenty of water and avoid exposure to the sun,” said Josh Kelly, at Parker and Sons.

Secondly, vacation time ought to be taken during the summer months. There are an abundance of vacation destinations easily accessible to residents of the sun’s valley: Portland, Oregon, San Diego, Park City, Utah, Mazatlan, Mexico, Flagstaff, Reno, Last Vegas, and of course, anywhere in Colorado. A week away from Arizona sun’s rays can make the summer months pass by quickly.

But the two most important tips for surviving the summer are: make sure your AC works, and keep perspective. The former involves a simple call to your local HVAC provider before the summer sun hits hard, and the latter involves reminding yourself that the summer is only a season and it will soon pass away.
