Surviving Addiction—Narconon Graduate Tells Her Story

A recent graduate of Narconon Suncoast explains what is different about the Narconon program and why she is finally confident that she will be drug-free … for good.

More than 1,000 graduates have completed the Narconon program in the last 10 months and are living their lives drug-free.

“Before coming to Narconon Suncoast, my drug use was in complete control of my life,” says a young woman who recently completed the Narconon program.

One of a thousand graduates to complete in the past 10 months, she arrived at Narconon Suncoast after everything else had failed. And although she wanted to be clean, she honestly didn’t believe it was possible. “I just knew this was my last chance and that I needed to give it my best,” she says.

"I finally have nothing to hide about myself. I believe in this program and its ability to help anyone. It not only helped me become drug-free, it also helped me to become a better person."

Withdrawal is never easy, but at Narconon there is always a Withdrawal Specialist on hand to assist. The Narconon program begins with a nonmedical drug-free withdrawal regimen. No substitute medications are used. Nutritional support helps calm the body and ease withdrawal symptoms. Special procedures called assists help reduce the physical aspects of withdrawal.

“One day, I woke up and realized that I really began to be a happy, drug-free person,” she says. “This felt absolutely amazing.”

This was a turning point for her.

“Before coming here, I had periods of clean time that lasted about a month or so at a time and then I would relapse,” she says. “Part of the reason I would relapse was that I never learned to be happy and have fun without using drugs.”

After being clean for 30 days, she figured it couldn’t get much better.  “I could not have been more wrong,” she admits.

What came next was a complete surprise. “When I started feeling good as a result of this program, not only did it give me confidence in my ability to be happy again, but it also allowed me to be comfortable enough to confront the parts of my life that needed fixing.”

These, it turned out, were the very reasons she had turned to drugs in the first place. Unhandled, they would have lurked in the background waiting for the moment they could drive her to revert to drugs once again. But the program helped her confront and come to terms with these issues. “This is something I couldn’t even fathom before coming to Narconon,” she says.

“When I entered the last part of the program, I was feeling spectacular,” says the young graduate. “Handling my life and increasing my level of responsibility for what I had done to myself and my family, I felt like a huge weight was finally off my shoulders. I felt like a purer, cleaner and healthier person.

“The Narconon program helped me to break down the different parts of my life that needed improving and come up with a systematic way of addressing those areas.”

Healthier, more confident now than she ever used to be, she is proud to say “I finally have nothing to hide about myself. I believe in this program and its ability to help anyone. It not only helped me become drug-free, it also helped me to become a better person.”

Narconon Suncoast was opened in November 2015, just minutes from downtown Clearwater, Florida. The facility was made possible by generous contributions from members of the International Association of Scientologists.
