'Support Water for Life' Campaign Launched to Ending the Plight of Women in Awasi
Awasi, August 31, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Water scarcity in awasi town, Kisumu County is now becoming a crisis exposing women to sex pests in the name of water vendors. Women in the area are now a frustrated lot as the water vendors reportedly demand sexual favours in exchange for water.
Those who reject the advances are forced to walk for several kilometres and queue for hours on end in search of the rare commodity. But more disheartening is that some of these women are waylaid on this treacherous trip and raped.
"We are seeking funding through indiegogo crowd funding to register our organisation as a non-governmental organisation so as to work within the legal confines as per the Kenyan laws. This will not only legitimize the organisation but also make it confident in resource mobilization," said Dennis Tinega of Support Water for Life.
"We therefore require roughly $2000 to do the registration. We will also use part of these funds to create a website that will enable keep in touch with our donors and supporters," said Tinega.
