The Second United States of Women summit took place in Los Angeles from May 5th - 6th 2018. Both Sukarya and Sukarya USA participated in this summit, which brought together more than 6000 women, girls, and allies to discuss issues like entrepreneurship, women’s health, reproductive justice, sexual violence, equality, and education. Sukarya USA was present as a community partner.

The summit was hosted by Valerie Jarrett and Tina Tchen, former White House advisers, and was attended by Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo movement, and actor and activist Jane Fonda, among other luminaries. Also present were leaders from the fields of education, civic engagement, trans rights, and equity. Day 1 of the summit was capped by a conversation with former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, who spoke about a range of issues related to the mission of USOW.

It is all about solidarity and one weekend cannot fix everything. It has taken two decades to bring the voice of millions to a right place. Not keeping quiet for sure. I am proud of Sukarya. What an incredible moment to hear Michelle Obama.

Meera Satpathy, Chairperson, Sukarya & Sukarya USA

In this mix of change agents and leaders, Sukarya offered its own take on the future of social change. Sukarya chairperson Meera Satpathy, and board members of Sukarya USA Debadutta Dash and Rita Meher launched the proposal for the Center of Excellence for Social Change. COE is a uniquely designed initiative for the capacity building and training of nonprofits, community-based organizations, and corporations.
