Singapore, December 4, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Strokearts Studio in Singapore is a visual arts studio in Singapore where contemporary artists Shivali & Kumuda offer visual art enrichment programmes through classes and workshops for children and adults.
Kumuda & shivali are contemporary artists based in Singapore and are largely influenced by Indian art especially Indian folk art. They are keen to promote an awareness and appreciation for Indian arts.
The studio offers art programs that are tailored to kindle creativity and creative expression among people of all age groups interested in learning drawing and painting. Strokearts Studio is founded by artists Shivali and Kumuda and the art studio aims at exploring art from South-East Asia and India. The studio conducts workshops, classes and exhibitions regularly.
They have been invited to participate in the President’s Challenge Exhibition & Auction 2015 where their art will be exhibiting their art work. Their art work has been selected for creation of a commemorative EZ Link card and postal stamp to mark the event in November 2015.
They have been approached by the organizers of Kala Utsavam 2015- Indian Festival of Arts at Esplanade, Singapore to create three large wall murals of ‘Warli’ art at Community Walls 1,2& 3 at the Esplanade- Theatres by the Bay, Singapore in November 2015.
In May 2015, they were invited by National Heritage Board, Singapore to create a huge mural of ‘Gond’ art as a Community Art Project to mark the opening of the Indian Heritage Centre, Singapore. The art work is a permanent exhibit at the India Heritage Centre.
Amongst other art events that they will be engaged in 2015-16 are several art and craft workshops that aim to encourage all to explore and experience art.
For example their fundraiser art workshop series titled ‘Symbols of Freedom’ aim to raise funds in support of the Singapore Committee for UN Women achieve their mission of gender equality and empowerment of women. Held once a month for 6 months, it will culminate in celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8 2016.
As part of their efforts to connect art theories with practical learning, they conduct a series of art workshops titled ‘Elements of Art’ that encourage children to analyze world famous paintings by world famous artists in terms of elements such as lines, shapes, perspective, colour theory and space. The children are then encouraged to create art work based on their understanding of the elements. These workshops will be conducted as school holiday programmes in November and December 2015.
Janurary 2016 marks the first anniversary of the studio and they have a series of programmes to mark the event such as an art competition for children on the theme of ‘MY Art’ and an exhibition of art work by the artists themselves as well as their deserving students.
One of the principles that the artists like to encourage through their art workshops is to use art on objects of everyday use that is both useful and artistic in its creation. As a part of these programmes scheduled in December 2015 and January 2016 are art and craft workshops such as painting on dry wood, creating a spice tree art work, 3-d art, terracotta tile art, painting with palette knife, creating paints from organic materials found in homes such as coffee, salt and turmeric. Often the art workshops are aimed at promoting bonding between parent and child through art activities.
Regular art classes are conducted at the studio for adults and children based on a carefully created curriculum which is the result of years of experience as arts educators. Shivali & Kumuda have both been Co-Curriculum Arts teachers at Global Indian International School, Singapore at their three campuses for over five years. They had been running arts enrichment classes at two separate centres in Singapore for eight years before they founded Strokearts Studio.
The curriculum for children include programmes tailored for students based on their age groups such as ‘ Tender minds Programme’® for 3-5 year olds, ‘Active Minds Programme’ ®for 6-9 year olds, ‘creative Minds Programme’ ®for 10-12 year olds and ‘Young Adult Minds Programme’® for 12- 17 year olds. The studio offers a ‘Special Sketching Programme’ designed for students who want to do an exclusive sketching curriculum to help build future visual arts careers such as animation, architecture, graphic designing and design and technology.
The adult art programmes offered are a short duration course that help students explore a single medium such as oil painting or acrylic painting and completing a project in that medium. The medium duration course is a course that offers two or more mediums for exploration and creating two or more projects and or creating a mixed media project. The adult programmes also include contemporary Indian art and Indian Folk art art courses.
