Strobel™ Guitars Teams Up With Graph Tech

Electric travel guitars, travel guitar, graph tech, best travel guitar

Strobel™ Guitars (manufacturer of high-end, electric travel guitars) has partnered with the folks at Graph Tech on several projects over the years. Strobel uses Graph Tech String Tees and TUSQ nuts on the Strobel production model Rambler® Classic Professional Electric Travel Guitars. Strobel recently collaborated to create a new Custom Rambler® Travel Guitar using the Ghost ResoMax Piezo-electric bridge and Acousti-Phonic preamp system, as well as installing a set of new Graph Tech Ratio Tuners. Strobel was impressed with the concept and the operation of the Ration tuners. Customers get the same pitch change on every string with one turn of the machine head. Strobel asked for smaller tuner buttons to accommodate the layout of their Rambler® Travel guitars.

Strobel set out to build the best travel guitar one could imagine, using Graph Tech electronics and all-gold hardware. Gray Bramwell (lead technical guru) was instrumental in guiding us with the design and installation of the Acousti-Phonic system. The locking Ratio tuners dropped right into Strobel's existing tuner hole locations. They added a split concentric potentiometer to control the volume and tone of the Schaller Golden 50 humbuckers and a separate volume control for the Acousti-Phonic. This new Custom Rambler® was constructed with a laminated Maple and Rosewood top, Swamp Ash body, Maple neck, and Rosewood fretboard. “Woody”, as Strobel nicknamed this new Rambler® travel guitar, was completed with a clear gloss, vintage, nitro-cellulose finish.

Woody’s Custom Rambler® output can be Magnetic only, Piezo only, or both by selecting a mini-toggle switch. A separate mini-toggle selects the neck, bridge or both Schaller humbuckers. Using the supplied Graph Tech stereo jack provides a blended Magnetic/ Piezo sound unlike anything we have heard – it is just amazing. Turn up a little of the Piezo output to add a wonderful high-end sparkle to the guitar tone when using the blended mode. Or go to a realistic acoustic sound by selecting only the Piezo output. The ultimate set up results from using a stereo output cable and feeding the Piezo output to an acoustic guitar amp, with the Schaller pickups going to a nice tube amp, like a Fender Blues Junior. There is an amazing combination of Humbucker and Piezo tones from this guitar.

Many thanks to the Graph Tech team for their support, guidance, and recommendations as the team proceeded through the design and build process of this fabulous new offering for the Strobel™ Custom Rambler® Professional Electric Travel Guitars.
