Star Staffing Hires Performance Coach to Combat COVID-19 Burnout

Award-Winning Coach Cheryl Mann to Join Team

In a groundbreaking move to counter the negative effects of COVID-19 on the workforce environment and to navigate burnout and difficulty returning to the work world, Star Staffing, a leading Northern California-based firm enlisted the expert council of performance coach Cheryl Mann. Mann is a team development expert with over 20 years of experience who empowers leaders and teams to reach their fullest potential, including AT&T, Johnson & Johnson, PG&E, Kaiser Permanente, and Sutter Health.

"We've been through so much trauma over these past few years, and we're all facing stress and burnout," says Star Staffing President Nicole Smartt Serres. "It seems we're all feeling emotions more intensely — especially fear. I don't want that for our employees."

Looking for a proactive solution, Serres considered how athletes, entrepreneurs, and elite professionals use performance coaches to help them achieve their goals. She recognized this type of support would help her team and clients establish the right mental state and achieve a more fulfilled life. "Our work is not separate from our lives," she says. "Work and home are more interconnected than we think. I wanted to find a way to help our team set healthy boundaries and prioritize taking care of themselves."

Star Staffing believes an organizational structure where well-being is the norm should be the norm. The Star Staffing team will develop new skills and strategize ways to combat stress, overload, inefficiency, and negativity.

The goal of the powerful program is for each person to come away transformed mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The experience will support participants with strategies to alleviate the burdens of stress and burnout and to invigorate and renew their confidence, trust, and commitment to Star. The company will deploy Mann across its eight branches so all its 45 full-time employees and teams will be able to work with her to improve office culture and boost morale. "It's a privilege, as a boss, to take care of your team," says Serres.

Star Staffing is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, reporting earnings in excess of $35 million annually in sales. "Being in business for 25 years is a challenge," says CEO Lisa Lichty, who credits the company's success to a driven and strategic team and the support of its surrounding communities. "Star has always risen to the ever-changing challenges of the industry — building strategic relationships that have lasted the test of time," she continues. "This new coaching program exemplifies our organization's pioneering approach to employee enhancement and retention."
