St. Matthew's Music Guild Opens 2010 - 2011 Season
Online, September 17, 2010 (Newswire.com) - "World Class Music Close to Home" is the Music Guild's slogan and well describes the quality of programs offered by the Music Guild in the acoustically and visually brilliant Palisades space by architect Charles Moore.
The Chamber Orchestra at St. Matthew's, made up of some of the finest freelance and studio musicians in Los Angeles, has been called "a jewel of Westside musical life" by The Palisadian Post and has received high praise by the Los Angeles Times and Santa Monica Outlook.
The October 8 concert will feature Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, the "Pastoral," and Francis Poulenc's rarely heard masterpiece, the Organ Concerto in G minor. Thomas Foster will be the organ soloist.
The concert pays tribute to the late Hoyt Swift Pardee, a founding member of Pardee Construction Company, who died earlier this year and whose family donated the funds for the church's renowned mechanical action organ by C.B. Fisk of Gloucester, MA. The organ is generally acknowledged to be one of the finest instruments in the city.
Music at St. Matthew's presents seven concerts throughout the season. For program details, tickets and other information visit the Music Guild website: MusicGuildOnline.org
