Springfield Plateau Grotto Announces Launch Of New Website
Online, November 18, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The Springfield Plateau Grotto (SPG) is pleased to announce the launch of its new website.
SPG president Jonathan Beard stated, "A technologically up-to-date website is important not only for our organization to advance our caves and karst conservation efforts, but also to provide a convenient means for prospective members to find out more about our organization, become a member online and for us to communicate with existing members about up-coming cave trips and cave related activities." He added, "We are excited about our website's responsive design, which means visitors will have an optimal viewing experience whether they access our site on a desktop computer, a laptop, a tablet, an iPad or smartphone."
A particularly active grotto, SPG members average 200 wild cave trips per year. The grotto helps fund cave gating projects and members are involved in the construction of cave gates to prevent vandalism and trespass. In addition to cave exploration, biological studies and surveying, SPG members also contribute many volunteer hours to numerous cave restoration projects including work in Fisher Cave in Meramec State Park, near Sullivan, Missouri. The Fisher Cave project began in 1999 and remains a work in progress.
SPG publishes Caring for Your Karst, a booklet compiled to help education landowners about caves and karst on their property. The publication defines the landform, karst, explains its importance, how karst works and how to take care of it by maintaining clean groundwater.
To help fund its cave conservation projects, this year, SPG produced a 2014 calendar featuring the work of talented cave photographers who are among its members.
