Springbrook to Host Informed Decision Making Workshop
Springbrook will host an "Informed Decision Making" workshop on Wednesday, October 14. This free, half-day event will be held in the Events Room at Springbrook's Community Campus, located at 5588 State Highway 7 in Oneonta, New York (formerly Saint Mary's School).
Oneonta, NY, October 7, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Springbrook, a leading provider of innovative supports for people with special needs, will host an “Informed Decision Making” workshop on Wednesday, October 14. This free, half-day event will be held in the Events Room at Springbrook’s Community Campus, located at 5588 State Highway 7 in Oneonta, New York (formerly Saint Mary’s School).
Presented by the New York State Association of Community and Residential Agencies (NYSACRA) and the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP), “Informed Decision Making” is being offered in conjunction with the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities’ (OPWDD) DSP Code of Ethics, Core Competencies, and Performance Evaluations. The main goal of the workshop is to provide training for direct support professionals in understanding how to properly guide the people they support through the decision making process. This process includes helping the individual recognize all of the possible choices and outcomes that are involved in making a decision. Workshop attendees will have an opportunity to participate in role-playing activities that will allow them to apply these skills in a practical setting. There will also be information released pertaining to important developments in federal regulations that guide Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) at the state and national level. “Informed Decision Making” is eligible for MSC professional development hours and counts toward Broker professional development hours.
The workshop is a half-day event and is being offered from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and again from 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. on October 14. Workshop participants only need to attend one of the sessions, as they are identical. Direct support professionals, as well as those in supervisory, management, and training and development roles, are strongly encouraged to attend.
