Sporty Afros- Where Sports and Hair Collide
Online, June 21, 2011 (Newswire.com) - I can't workout because I want to mess up my hair." We all have heard this before or felt this way at some point. However, there is a solution - Sporty Afros.com. Founders Whitney Patterson and Alexandria Williams are two Dallas triathletes who started Sporty Afros after constantly being asked how they maintained their curly and coily hair while sticking to a consistent workout routine.
Whitney Patterson explains how it was started. "We started this business to share what we do and show women of color how to how to care for their hair while living an active lifestyle. We noticed a need in the community. To show black women that hair care doesn't have to prevent you from working out. We wanted to share what we were doing because we felt it could help others."
The site has a variety of information from nutrition tips, healthy recipes, hair product reviews, hair care tips and workout routines to following the founders' training, progress and issues they face. From recipes and tips for those that are picky eaters to the true trials and triumphs the co-founders face, SportyAfros is finally connecting the dots between hair care, nutrition and exercise.
"Whitney and I share the same goals- healthy hair and healthy bodies, yet we are different- like Ying and Yang. She started on the natural hair journey right when I started with triathlons. Somehow the two milestone decisions our lives crossed over. I needed her for help with my hair while working out and she needed motivation for working out with her "new hair" evolution."
Sporty Afros discusses it all - Product reviews, extensions, swimming caps and their specialty with their personal research and focus on non-American oil bases for their hair growth. The two founders speak and are very direct with each reader often "answering questions at 3am in the morning" says Alexandria.
