Tech Venture Capital giant Benchmark Capital will fund the network expansion in North America with Sony and Samsung providing the support necessary for the expansion in Asia. Expansion into Europe and South America will depend on demand and the ability to find funding sources. Currently there are no plans to expand into the Middle East or Africa.

The beta version of SoniXFM has already been re-branded for use on over 12 million devices. SoniXCast’s broadcast network currently receives between 3 and 4 million requests per day with network load to expected to exceed 24 million requests by the end of the year. In addition to the network expansion, SoniXCast is developing helpful tools for broadcasters and audio content providers.

The final version of SoniXFM will be covered under the creative commons license and remain free for non-commercial use. An API toolkit will be provided to developers wishing to use SoniXCast’s audio compression and delivery technologies and SoniXCast is developing their own media server based upon the open source projects IceCast and Red5 as well as a WebRTC based broadcasting client designed specifically for use on all internet ready devices.

SoniXCast was founded in 2006 in response to the demand for low cost stream hosting services in Europe. Longtime partner Sony helped fund the initial development of SoniXCast’s broadcast network in 2008 which has grown to include infrastructure in 24 data centers worldwide. SoniXCast changed direction to focus more on providing SaaS and B2B network services in 2013.
