Social & Emotional Intelligence Explored at NJ Council for Exceptional Children March 13th

"Helping The Struggling Learner" Conference Offers Over 40 Breakout Sessions For Educators and Parents


Ramapo College of New Jersey is hosting the New Jersey Council for Exceptional Children (NJCEC) Spring 2017 Conference on Monday, March 13 in Friends Hall in the Scott Student Center. The event is from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include more than 40 breakout sessions on topics including RTI, Technology, Gifted and Talented, literature and math skills, transition planning, legal issues, social and emotional intelligence, etc.  More than 400 educators and administrators are expected to attend.

“This is an incredible opportunity for Ramapo College to be hosting this conference.   Their willingness to support the field of Special Education is extraordinary!” said Dr. Norflus-Good, President of the NJCEC. “We are especially thrilled to have Dr. Peggy Mc Donald as the keynote.” Peggy is the Deputy Director, Division of Learning Supports and Specialized Services at the New Jersey Department of Education.  "This year we are giving 4 scholarships to 4 HS students. Our goal is to make the New Jersey Special Education community stronger."  

The members of the New Jersey Council for Exceptional Children would also like to extend our appreciation to President Peter Mercer, Provost Beth Barnett, and Dean Aaron Lorenz of Ramapo College for their continued support in making a difference in the lives of those with special needs and those working with children with special needs.

​Author and social and emotional intelligence expert Karen Stone will also be presenting at the conference at her noon breakout session.

About Karen Stone:   Karen Stone, M.A., Elementary & Special Education, MA in Learning Disabilities, has worked in the education field for more than 45 years.  She authors a blog on raising children with Emotional Intelligence (EQ) on her website,  She previously wrote an anti-bullying blog,, for several years that was inspired by her educational background and her own experiences being bullied from childhood to early adulthood at home and at school.
