Smyth Jewelers Hosts First-Ever Little Executives Day for Their Staff's Children
The educational experience allowed 12 children of the retailer's Timonium store staff to join their parents at work for a day and learn what it takes to run a successful jewelry store.
TIMONIUM, Md., August 9, 2019 (Newswire.com) - Many kids spend their days wondering what their parents do when they leave for work. For 12 children of Smyth Jewelers’ staff, they don’t have to wonder anymore -- they know what goes on behind-the-scenes at the largest jewelry retailer on the East Coast.
On Tuesday, July 30th Smyth Jewelers held their first Little Executives Day at their store in Timonium, Maryland. The all-day event, a spin on Bring Your Kid to Work Day, allowed the retailer’s staff’s children to learn more about what Mom and Dad do at work every day.
Each Little Executive received a specialty name badge, business cards with their name and “Smyth Junior Executive” printed on it, and their birthstone with additional information about the gem. Throughout the day, they also had the opportunity to sit in for a meeting in the boardroom, watched educational videos on gemstones and jewelry, learned about the store’s operations, and explored the jewelry repair shop.
This event was originally planned for Bring Your Kids to Work Day on April 25, but because of an event already taking place in-store, the staff decided to postpone it until the summer, when all of the children would be on vacation.
By bringing back this event, the Maryland-based jewelry retailer has reinstated a popular tradition at the store that had taken place over 20 years ago. Thanks to the success of this event, Smyth Jewelers plans on holding this event every year -- just like old times.
Wanda Rosewell, a member of Smyth Jewelers’ sales staff who spearheaded the initiative, had her own 12-year-old son in attendance as well. “Our first Smyth Little Executives Day was a great success!” said Rosewell following the event. “It was a wonderful day of learning, exploring, and empowering our future.”
