Singapore Stated to Hold Fresh General Election

Singapore, Singapore, January 19, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Singapore is going in for a fresh General Election even as the island nation, admired worldwide, faces a slew of worries centering on economic slowdown and immigration issues. Singaporean politics has been dominated by the People’s Action Party, which has ruled over the island state for over half a century.

The party, headed by the incumbent Prime Minister, is expected to once again register an emphatic victory. The main concern facing the party however would be to avoid a repeat of its 2011 performance when it managed to retain 80 out of the 89 seats even though it garnered only 60% of the vote.

As to how successful they will be will come to be known only after the last vote has been cast and the voting done and dusted.

Political pundits are keenly looking forward to the forthcoming electoral contest, which they expect to be quite keenly contested.  Singapore stands apart in the South East Asian region in that it offers a first world lifestyle to its people, and the fact that it is a stable democracy is a proud feather in its cap. The outcome of the election will have consequences beyond the nation state itself.

The local people of course are keenly clued up on the elections and follow election season quite closely. The clamor surrounding the general election has become louder and is expected to reach a crescendo around D Day.
