Simpliti Takes on "Matt Cutts Says No To Article Directories For Links"

What is Google's official stance on article directories-Is it good or bad? This is the frantic topic of Matt Cutt's latest webmaster help video.

With apologies to Matt Cutts, head of Google's search spam, the weekend has started on a bad note for webmasters. Matt Cutts has reserved its most appalling update for the weekend and when it has unveiled its latest update on article directories, it has undoubtedly taken aback the SEO fraternity. What is Google's official stance on article directories-Is it good or bad? This is the frantic topic of Matt Cutt's latest webmaster help video. If you've working in the SEO industry for even three years, you probably remember those days when article submission websites were in rage. You could quickly write an article, submit it literally to thousands of article submission sites in a hope that readers will republish the content on their site and you will get links. However, Matt Cutts has evaded the existence of these article submission sites by calling their practice spammy.

While Matt Cutt's video explicitly refers to one of the renowned article submission sites, there are hundreds of similar article directories that accept articles from publishers. While site owners earn bucks by advertising of the articles, writers on the other hand hope that other people will syndicate it and they will get legitimate links out of it. The reason behind is that if somebody finds the article useful, he might put it on their website and you might get links. But now in practice what we have seen is that it encourages a little bit of low quality stuff. And in more instances, it has been seen that spammy content being sprayed all over the web world.

Mr. Foyzul Alom Choudhury, Manager, Simpliti, quoted "SEOs largely have abandoned article directories many years ago but still there are some webmasters who consider it as an opportunity but sadly, don't realize the implications of it. The reality is that article submission sites have become overwritten with spammy content but many sites don't realize it."

Matt Cutts also hinted that their search algorithm is filtering and penalizing those directories which are spammy. Taking a dig, Mr. Foyzul said, webmasters should follow Matt Cutts suggestion which says that instead of posting on article sites, one should write articles and post on their own websites because there is no perk from submitting to other sites.
