Simon West Fine Jewellery to Launch Five New Pieces for Spring Collection

Melbourne, VIC, September 26, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Simon West Fine Jewellery, the premier source for the finest handmade engagement rings and diamond wedding rings in Melbourne, has good news for all their valued clients. In the last six weeks, Simon West, the master jeweller of the prestigious jewellery boutique, revealed that he has been working on 5 new jewellery designs for their spring collection. Simon said, “These pieces are displayed and so far, have proven a success with their Art deco influence. The metals we have used are white gold & platinum, featuring mainly diamonds.”
In connection with the newest Spring collection designs, Simon has revealed his secrets in creating new pieces and from where his ideas evolved. “I never struggled to come up with new ideas, one thing I don’t have is enough time to get my ideas on paper before they leave my mind. The first thing I do before creating a new piece is sketch it out on paper to scale. This helps me understand proportions. Once the sketch is done, and I am happy with it, one of my jewellers will make the piece. This could take anywhere from five to sixteen hours generally. Once the ring is finished, we set the diamonds in the ring. This also requires skill and attention to detail. Once we have put the diamonds in the ring, we will give it a final polish, and then it’s time for it to be valued for insurance purposes. The best part of my job is the big reveal. Everyone has different reactions, and ultimately, it’s all about happy customers and great results. We make approximately 170 engagement rings a year, and we only have to remake one on an arrangement.”
Simon also gave a little recap on how he got into jewellery design. Simon West said, “It all started 23 years ago when I met a jeweller who was friends with mum and dad. I got talking to him, I was so interested in his story of being a platinum smith (jeweller) and how he made his jewellery, and for whom he made his jewellery. I have always taken a keen interest in design so when I started my apprenticeship as a gold and platinum smith I was able to apply my design skills. I started my business back in 1999 when I was 25 and nothing was going to stop me. I was keen to make jewellery, and over the years, I have built up a following locally, interstate and internationally.”
