Girls on the Run Twin Cities, Inc. is pleased to announce a premier silent auction event, Dollars for Distance, to support their goal of empowering young girls to live to their fullest potential. Girls on the Run Twin Cities is a youth development program that inspires girls in the 3rd to 5th grades to be joyful, healthy and confident by combining training for a 3.1 mile race with important lessons about body image, healthy living, friendship and more.

Dollars for Distance will take place on Thursday, June 7th, 2012 at the Town and Country Club, 300 N Mississippi River Blvd, St Paul, Minnesota. Guests will enjoy an evening out including a cash bar, appetizers, dessert and a wine toss. Guests will also have a chance bid on a range of fantastic items including jewelry, fitness classes and baseball tickets to spa certificates, photography sessions and more. The event will feature speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher (former speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives and President and CEO of the Minnesota High Tech Association) and MC Melissa Valle (member of the University of Minnesota Women's Cross Country Team).

"I am really excited to take part in this event. Girls on the Run provides an important boost of confidence and inspiration to girls at a critical time in their development," said Margaret Anderson Kelliher. "It is this type of support system women will continue to appreciate at every stage of life."

Tickets can be purchased through www.active.com in advance by searching Dollars for Distance, or at the door.

"We strive to teach young girls the power of healthy self-esteem and lifelong benefits of exercise," said Kori Fitschen, Co-Founder and Director of the Twin Cities chapter. "We essentially are promoting positive youth development through physical activity. Our programs teach young girls the value of setting goals, teamwork, and the skills needed to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyle habits through running."

One of the girls in the program says, "My favorite thing about Girls on the Run is that I get to make new friends, work in a team and express my emotions."

Girls on the Run is a 501c3 non-profit whose programs are supported by donations. The Girls on the Run curricula addresses all aspects of girls' development - their physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual well-being with such topics as the importance of keeping commitments, supporting each other's goals and good communication skills. The curricula also prepares the girls to participate in a 5K run at the end of the program.
