Shiv Shankaran Nair Fisheries & Marine Products today announced acquisition of a German made high tech deep sea fishing trawler equipped with motorized winches, electronic navigation and sonar systems that is projected to double the processing of the company's marine products by almost 100 percent.

Shiv Shankaran Nair, GM (Exports) had a bullish outlook of the market and said "Our main export markets are the EU and Japan and with confirmed bookings for 2.4 million crates of processed marine products to be supplied over the next 24 months, it was essential for us to strengthen this link in our supply chain".

Shiv Shankaran Nair is optimistic that with the new trawler there will also be fewer incidents of decay or deterioration. The standard features of the trawler have been customized to meet the specific needs of the Indian environment particularly the sea conditions along the Indian coast. Provision has been made in the trawler to stock the daily catch in chilled conditions. This is done with the help of large boxes where the catch is stored and covered with ice. The catch can also be refrigerated or frozen in blocks. The trawler also has latest navigation and sonar systems that facilitate deep sea fishing during night time.

Shiv Shankaran Nair Fisheries currently processes 35 MT of marine products from an installed capacity of 200 MT. With the acquisition of the new trawler the daily catch is expected to go up by 25 MT that will enable the company achieve a higher utilization of its installed capacity.

About us:
Shiv Shankaran Nair Fisheries and Marine Products is a leading exporter of marine products. The company's product mix includes canned and dried types of shrimps, lobsters, clams, cuttlefish, fish fillets and squid varieties. Although the company is on a growth trajectory, it is still a small player in the Indian export market that saw a turnover of US$ 4.7 bn in 2013 up by almost 65% from 2011 that had seen exports totaling up to US$ 2.8 bn. While the export market is important for the company, it is now also looking at the bourgeoning Indian market particularly the metros where there is a growing trend towards consumption of sea food.
