Shelter Pit Bull Granted New Lease on Life as Wheatley Marshal Arkansas Police Dog

K9 Mika gets a new lease on life with the help of Indiana K9 Learning Center LLC, Michelle Steigmeyer, and Universal K9.

K9 Mika, once a shelter dog, today has a new lease on life as a police dog with the Wheatley Arkansas Marshal Service thanks to the care and compassion of Michelle Steigmeyer, Lily, Indiana K9 Learning Center LLC, and Universal K9.

K9 Mika could very well have had a very different future. From a shelter dog rescued by Michelle Steigmeyer of Elkhart Indiana from almost certain euthanasia to K9 police dog, she’s had an amazing journey.

Mika was originally surrendered to the High Kill Shelter, and she was on the short list to be euthanized within days this is when Loving Heart Animal Shelter( in Lafayette Indiana) stepped in and changed K9 Mika life forever. She spent several months at their shelter, being overlooked at adoption events largely due to her breed and energy. (K9 Mika is a pit bull.) Things seemed pretty bleak until she managed to catch the eye of Michelle Steigmeyer in Elkhart Indiana. Michelle knew the perfect place to send K9 Mika so that her energy could be put to good use and have a chance to give back to a community in need. This is when Michelle Steigmeyer contacted Brad Croft of Universal K9.

"Michelle has really got an eye for dogs we currently look for. I knew from previous dogs Michelle had sent that K9 Mika was most likely going to be a Rock Star, and we gladly took her in. K9 Mika excelled at her training and graduated from our program top of the class beating out all of the traditional police dog breeds such as German shepherds, Belgian Mals, and Labrador retrievers. This didn’t surprise us though, as Universal K9 has over 50 pit bull police dogs out on the street working!"

K9 Mika and her new handler Chief Lloyd Miller of Wheatley Marshal Service will return to Arkansas Friday, April 27, 2018, to begin cleaning up the streets and proving it doesn’t take an expensive pure breed dog from overseas to do quality police work. "K9 Mika is 1 Bad Ass detection dog. She can find that dope quicker than you can stop moving your feet." Said Chief Lloyd Miller.
