Second Annual "BreastFest" Event Benefits Susan G. Komen San Diego 3-Day for the Cure

October 9, 2010 fundraiser on track to raise over $10,000 with proceeds to support local team raising money for the San Diego 3-day, 60-mile walk

Carlsbad, Calif. - The second annual BreastFest takes place on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at Ferguson Bath, Kitchen and Lighting Gallery, 1725 Hacienda Drive, Vista, California. The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Organized by a Carlsbad-based Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ walking team, BreastFest 2010 is expected to raise more than $10,000 for breast cancer research and programs through ticket sales, silent auctions, raffle sales and other activities.

More than 200 guests will enjoy live music by the Jack Stones and food, wine and beer donated by vendors, including Bedrosian's, Dacor, GE, JennAir, Lampost Pizza, Marvel Industries, Perlick,SubZero/Wolf, Viking, and Woodstone.
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure, a 60-mile walk for women and men who want to make a personal difference in the fight to end breast cancer, takes place Nov. 19 - 21, 2010 in San Diego. While individual participants commit to raise at least $2,300, the walking team members of are planning to raise $4,000 per person, with net proceeds helping to pay for global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment.

"With more than 1.3 million women diagnosed and 465,000 dying from this disease each year, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer," said Beach Babes for Boobs Team Captain Michelle Geller. "While I have personally not been afflicted by this disease, I am committed to doing my part so no parent, sibling, friend or loved one has to suffer,"

Geller, who works as a design consultant at Ferguson Bath, Kitchen and Lighting Gallery, adds "The outpouring of support from the North County community helped raise a record-breaking $10,000 for this event last year, and we are hoping to surpass that in 2010."

With 75 percent of proceeds from the San Diego Breast Cancer 3-Day earmarked for local programs, Nola Rocha Campos, a San Diego breast cancer survivor and a 2006 team member, says it best. According to Campos, who was diagnosed with a fast-growing, invasive ductal carcinoma in February 2005, "I am the beneficiary of fundraisers like BreastFest 2010 whose proceeds support San Diego-based breast cancer research and public education. After being declared cancer-free last year, I am grateful for events such as this - because it continues to help everyone impacted by this disease, as it helped me when I needed it most."
