Schuylkill Navy Rower Kate McFetridge to Show Her Paintings at Philadelphia's Bo Concept in Exhibition Thursday, Sept. 28, Portion of Proceeds Benefit Philadelphia City Rowing

Philadelphia-based rower Kate McFetridge is debuting her artwork in her adopted hometown on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Bo Concept Philadelphia (1719 Chestnut Street) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from sales of McFetridge’s paintings will benefit Philadelphia City Rowing.

Bo Concept Philadelphia will introduce their fall line that evening, with McFetridge’s paintings and other artworks on display throughout the showroom.

“You will see a lot of colorful abstract work, primarily acrylic on canvas,” said McFetridge, who currently rows for the Conshocken Rowing Center, and is a member of the Vesper Boat Club and Fairmount Boat Club as part of The Schuylkill Navy. “I paint with my hands directly on the canvas, so there is a lot of texture in my work, as well as a lot of energy and movement.”

A native of Thorofare, New Jersey, McFetridge graduated from West Deptford High School and University of Southern California. A walk-on on the rowing team at USC, McFetridge is a rising star in the sport. She was the 2012 US Rowing Club Nationals Women’s Intermediate Single National Champion, the 2013 US Rowing Club Nationals Women’s Open 1x Dash National Champion, 2014 US Rowing Club Nationals Women’s Senior Double Champion, and was the 2015 Pan American Games Women’s Open Single Scull Silver Medalist.

McFetridge is also currently a coach at The Shipley School.

Inspired by abstract artist Jean Arader, McFetridge started painting in the spring of 2016, following the U.S. Olympic rowing trials. She also cites Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock as influences on her burgeoning artistic works.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of McFetridge’s paintings will benefit Philadelphia City Rowing. Founded in 2010, Philadelphia City Rowing is a unique, non-profit, sports-based youth development program that harnesses one of Philadelphia’s most iconic sporting traditions, rowing, to engage and empower public school students in Philadelphia.

Bo Concept Philadelphia is located at 1719 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
