Save Money on Your Shopping and Get Extra Insurance Miles at the Same Time

With motor costs rocketing, one company is offering UK drivers the chance to shop on line at a discount and get additional car insurance cover at the same time.

Launched last June, insurethebox charges all its customers according to the number of miles they drive. It has now added a virtual shopping mall, the ShoppingBox, to its website so that policyholders can buy on-line from hundreds of household names. As well as receiving special offers on many of the goods purchased, drivers get 2.5% of their spending converted into additional "reward" miles.

"We're offering motorists, especially young people, the chance to cut their insurance bills by doing something they would do anyhow - shop online," said insurethebox Business Development Director, Mark Grant. "This will go at least some way towards offsetting the rising costs of driving."

Average UK motor premiums have seen record increases with young drivers having to pay nearly 50% more in just a year, according to the AA. Personal injury claims and, to a lesser extent, fraud are blamed for the trend.

ShoppingBox means that Insurethebox's customers now have two ways in which they can obtain extra insurance mileage. Since its launch the company has monitored the way motorists drive through a 'clear box' installed at its expense in policyholders' cars.

If they have driven well, then they can earn up to 100 bonus miles every month. The better the driving, the bigger the bonus.
"With the number and variety of retailers available the policy holder's entire family can make purchases in the ShoppingBox and so further increase the opportunity to earn reward miles and reduce the cost of their car insurance," said Grant.
