Same-Sex Marriage Under Review In Nevada Court Of Appeals
The ruling for same-sex marriage is currently in the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals. Nevada residents can expect a final decision in several weeks.
Las Vegas, NV, September 11, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Wedding chapels all over Las Vegas are preparing for the possibility that same-sex marriage will be legalized in Nevada. Currently, Nevada residents are awaiting the ruling from the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals on the matter.
If they do pass this new law, it would reverse the 2002 state constitutional amendment, which banned gay marriage. Las Vegas chapel owners will no longer have to decide whether or not a same-sex couple should be married.
If the law does get passed, Nevada would be the 20th state in the US to allow same-sex marriage.
Along with the passing of the law, a lot more business would be brought to Las Vegas chapels. Even though, it’s predicted to bring in more money, many chapel owners are struggling with a moral dilemma.
The owner of the Little White Chapel stated that she wants to do right by God, but ultimately she is going to follow the law. The owner of Vegas weddings refused to comment on the matter.
Once the law goes through, wedding chapels will have 21 days to prepare for the imminent influx of same-sex couples. A final ruling is not expected for several weeks.
Governor Brian Sandoval admitted that he believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. He stated that he will respect the court’s decision no matter what they decide.
Most of Nevada’s gaming industry is on board with the idea of same-sex marriage. Both Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts support the law.
