SAK Awarded APWA Project of the Year Recognition for Webster Groves, MO, Geopolymer Project

SAK Construction, LLC (SAK) announced today that it was selected as the winner of the Missouri Chapter of American Public Works Association's (APWA) prestigious 2021 Project of the Year award. SAK, a national pipeline rehabilitation and tunneling services contractor headquartered in O'Fallon, MO, won the "Project of the Year" award recognizing their outstanding work performed on the Newport/Yeatman Box Culvert Improvements Project in historic Webster Groves, MO.

The American Public Works Association (APWA) serves professionals in all aspects of public works—a fact which sets it apart from other organizations and makes it an influential voice of public works throughout North America. The APWA Awards Program annually recognizes outstanding individuals, groups, companies, and chapters representing the best in public works.

"We are extremely proud and honored to receive this distinguished recognition for our high-quality work," stated Charlie Kuhnmuench, vice-president of business development at SAK. "We strive to be the best and find the right solution to every challenge our clients encounter."

The Webster Groves project was needed to repair an existing stormwater asset under a street corridor and provide safe future access to the conduit for maintenance purposes.

The project, located in an established, quiet residential area, had its challenges. The storm culvert asset was within a confined easement along Lockwood Park with trees and overgrowth. Choosing GeoKrete geopolymer from their diverse portfolio of pipe renewal solutions allowed SAK to select their start and stop times during the day to limit disturbance to homeowners and their families, and still achieve a monolithic structural solution.

"I can't tell you how many citizens had been asking when the work was going to be done," stated Todd A. Rehg, City of Webster Groves Director of Public Works. "Citizens didn't even notice SAK working since there was no disruption. We are extremely pleased with the project."

Based in O'Fallon, Missouri, and with regional offices in Baltimore, Maryland; Sacramento, California; and Nashville, Tennessee, SAK is actively expanding across the U.S. The company solves the challenge of maintaining and restoring aging pipeline infrastructure for the municipal, energy and industrial markets.  With industry-leading experience and a commitment to service excellence, SAK is a trusted partner helping customers worldwide renew, protect, and expand their pipeline infrastructure.
