SafetyNet CAD Integrates With 1st Minute, Best App for First Responders

Integrated solution named Best App for First Responders in First Responder Application Challenge held by Vencore, Inc. and IBM.

Hitech Systems, Inc., in collaboration with LanguageMAPS, Inc., responded to the Vencore, Inc. and IBM First Responder Application Challenge with an integrated software solution. The solution utilizes both SafetyNet Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) software and 1st Minute, a mobile application designed to provide immediate language translation assistance to first responders, public safety operators, and the culturally diverse public who request medical aid in emergency 9-1-1 calls for service and other encounters.

The integrated solution received first place in its category, Best App for First Responders, and received third place overall in the Challenge, which was judged by representatives from the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International (APCO), United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), IBM, and Vencore, Inc. The Challenge required participants to provide or improve upon a solution that meets a specific unmet need using the IDEAS application ecosystem, including IBM’s Bluemix application development services.

Our objective was clear. Collaborate with LanguageMAPS to fully integrate its language translation mobile application with our computer-aided dispatch software in order to streamline language translation and provide the right assistance and equipment to every call for service. We believe 1st Minute will improve communication between patients with limited English proficiency and both on-scene first responders and 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point telecommunicators, which will substantially decrease response times.

"1st Minute not only enables communication; it prevents miscommunication between first responders and patients," explains LanguageMAPS, Inc.'s  CEO, Lance Manning. "With its tight integration with SafetyNet CAD, it can save valuable time and help equip first responders, dispatchers, and even hospitals with the right knowledge to save lives."

Hitech Systems, Inc.  and LanguageMAPS, Inc. will continue working together to put the application into the hands of first responders everywhere.
