November 8, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Victoria Secret Angel and Top Model, Selita Ebanks, presented New York Giants Super Bowl XLII Hero, David Tyree. Tyree was awarded the Children's Champion Award at the Children of the City benefit which was hosted by Sopranos and Tonight Show Star, Steve Schirripa, in addition to the New Jersey Net's, Richard Jefferson. Board member and local businessman, Rocco Basile, was also a Children's Champion Award Recipient. "It's a true honor to share this award with an incredibly charitable man and an amazing athlete," Rocco Basile said of Tyree.
Guests gathered in support of Children of the City to help raise awareness for the educational needs and social challenges of underprivileged children in Brooklyn communities. The evening featured a live and silent auction over an exquisite dinner amid the sophisticated ambience of the Tribeca Rooftop.
"The Night of Champions Benefit Gala is a tremendous opportunity to educate New Yorkers about the challenges these children have to face," said Joyce Mattera, the dynamic Founder and Executive Director of the Sunset Park-based organization. Mattera has dedicated her life to helping abused and neglected children.
Since 1981, Children of the City has been serving at-risk children in the inner city communities of New York. New York State Senator, Martin J. Golden, who recently awarded funds to support Children of the City's educational programs, and New York City Council Member, David Weprin, presented a proclamation to Joyce Mattera for her continued, tireless dedication to such important social issues.
