Research On Ovarian Cancer, Conducted By Local Physician, To Be Presented At National Meeting
Highlands Oncology Group Oncologist Collaborated On Research On Ovarian Cancer Treatment
Fayetteville, AR, May 27, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Dr. J. Thaddeus Beck, of Highlands Oncology Group (HOG), collaborated on research, which studied treatment of ovarian cancer, that will be introduced at the annual American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Chicago. The annual meeting will take place from May 29 to June 2, 2015.
The research, entitled “Avelumab (MSB0010718C), an anti-PD-L1 antibody, in patients with previously treated, recurrent or refractory ovarian cancer: a phase Ib, open-label expansion trial,” focuses on a possible treatment option for specific ovarian cancer patients.
Ovarian cancer is the 11th most common cancer among women and the fifth leading cause of cancer related death among women, according to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. A woman’s lifetime risk of developing invasive ovarian cancer is 1 in 75. As ovarian cancer is the deadliest among the gynecologic cancers and continues to devastate the health of many women, continued research on the treatment of ovarian cancer is essential.
An annual ASCO meeting is held where oncologists from around the country meet to discuss breakthroughs or changes in medical oncology treatment and awareness, to present lectures and presentations and to provide educational experiences on concentrated topics in clinical oncology.
