Citing her experience and success bringing people together to solve problems, Representative Becky Edwards announced today that she will challenge U.S. Senator Mike Lee in the Utah Republican primary.

"I became a public servant to make a positive impact on the lives of our families and the prosperity of our state," Edwards said. "I did that by building a reputation as someone willing to listen and work with anyone to solve problems. Like most Utahns, I've watched as politics have become divisive and dysfunctional. Things need to change. It's time we have a leader in Washington who will stop bickering, and just put the people of Utah first."

As a member of the Utah House of Representatives, Edwards championed commonsense conservative solutions to the challenges facing Utah families. She worked to expand affordable housing options, improve Utah schools and support clean energy opportunities across Utah.

Throughout her time in public service, Edwards built a reputation as a leader who would listen to constituents. In fact, every week during her ten legislative sessions, she invited constituents into her living room to learn from their stories and challenges. She understands the importance of working together to address the struggles that Utah families and businesses are facing - especially on the heels of a global pandemic and an economic recession.

"Right now, Utah families are struggling and businesses are facing uncertainty," Edwards said. "Our leaders in Washington must start working together to ensure our economy recovers from this crisis. Our state and nation are at a critical turning point and it is our job to stop tearing each other down and start building bridges to a better, more prosperous future."

Becky earned wide respect in the legislature from members of both political parties for her skill in problem-solving, effectiveness at passing bills, and her tenacity and compassion when addressing challenging issues like health care, schools, jobs, and affordable housing.

Edwards is a life-long Utahn who has spent the past 26 years in Davis County. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in home economics and went on to earn her Master of Social Work and Master of Science in Family and Marriage Therapy. Becky is married to John Edwards and has four grown children and nine grandchildren. She just returned from serving in American Samoa for twenty months with her husband as humanitarian missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
