Boltight's innovative Hydraulic Closure System for 'Tops on: Tops off' work is now available for rent as well as outright purchase.
Walsall, United Kingdom, October 29, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Boltight’s customers can now rent its innovative Hydraulic Closure System for 'Tops on: Tops off' work. The fast, accurate and reliable system fits on existing turbine casings and studs, and offers a fast, even and safe method of checking turbine clearances (tops on/tops off). Its flexibility allows for freedom of planning of this critical application.
Already supplied to major utility companies all over the world, including General Electric, SSE, British Energy, EDF and Eskom, the system is proving popular with the power generation industry. Work can be carried out by a customer's own site personnel with minimal training. The system also compliments IBH for optimum time savings on the turbine service schedule.
By making the equipment available to rent, customers can conduct their own technical trials and compare Boltight’s closure system with existing practices before making a final decision on whether to buy. The rental costs can then be offset against the final purchase price.
Boltight's complete system comprises specially designed hydraulic nuts, a hydraulic hose arrangement, a hydraulic pump, spares and a health and safety operating manual. The hydraulic nuts locate on the existing bolts and are screwed down on to the turbine casing. These nuts are linked hydraulically using flexible hoses and quick acting nipples and couplings. They are connected to an air driven hydraulic pump.
When pressurised, the closure system stretches the bolts quickly to compress the casing evenly and accurately for performing the clearance, distortion and alignment checks. This not only saves time during the outage but also provides accurate and repeatable results. It compliments the use of traditional bolt tightening methods (e.g. heating and torque) used for turbine disassembly and reassembly and laser alignment methods.
Boltight's Hydraulic Closure System also delivers significant time savings during final turbine assembly and valve cover tightening. It helps to achieve a more accurate bolt load, eliminates repetitive bolt load adjustments and saves considerable time. Work that might traditionally take a few shifts can be completed in a matter of hours.
