Recycling for Charities Needs Your Help to Keep 75 Tons of E-Waste Out of Landfills

Royal Oak-based 'green' non-profit challenges community to help in their push to collect small, used electronics in the lead up to Earth Day 2010

March 22, 2010, Royal Oak, Michigan -- Recycling for Charities announces today their 'Earth Day Challenge', which aims to keep harmful toxins out of landfills by collecting 75 tons of e-waste from March 22nd to April 25th. A registered 501(c) 3 non-profit charity, Recycling for Charities (RFC) defends the environment and supports other worthy non-profits through recycling, donating the money raised to over 800 charities nationwide.

"Everyone has at least one phone sitting and collecting dust. If thrown away 150 cell phones can create up to 75 tons of garbage in our landfills. That amount of waste is enough to pollute about 150 Olympic size swimming pools of water. Our Earth Day Challenge is a call to action to recycle those items and prevent further damage to the environment," stated Dario Chiarini, President of Recycling for Charities.

For the Earth Day Challenge, RFC worked with several local businesses in Royal Oak to organize drop points throughout the City. Getting involved is easy. Simply bring your used electronic items to one of the drop points and RFC will do the rest. RFC will be accepting cell phones, iPods, iPhones, pagers, PDA's, MP3 players, and digital cameras. Going green is that easy, and your donation is also a tax write off. As an added incentive, Scout, Shine, and Titzy's will be offering discounts to 'green' customers who donate their old electronics.
