Recall Issued for Reebok Hockey Elbow Pads

Weak construction leading to risk of injury cited as cause for recall

Reebok has issued a recall on their EP20K Senior Hockey Elbow Pads. It has been determined that the foam padding that makes up most of the construction of the elbow caps is capable of cracking, splitting or fracturing, creating a risk of injury to the very part of the body they are made to protect.

The pads are white with black and grey fabric. The Reebok logo appears on both the upper and lowers sections. The model name: 20K PRO is printed on the forearm. The pads each feature three Velcro bands. The product codes K101SR EP20K is visible on an inside label. The pads are available in four sizes: S, M, L and XL. Retail price per unit was about $110 on average.

As of now, there is one serious injury that has been reported and linked to the pads wherein an athlete suffered a broken elbow. The recall applies to approximately 2,100 units shipped for sale in the United States and an additional 1,600 in Canada. Consumers are advised to stoop using the affected pads and return them to the place they were purchased to receive a full refund. The pads were manufactured by Sport Mask, Inc of Montreal, Quebec, Canada and were distributed in the United States by Reebok-CCM Hockey, Inc., based in Montpelier, Vermont.

"With Hockey season in full swing it is important that word of this recall gets out quickly," said Drazen Alcocer, founder and CEO of iFederated, parent company of iRecalls.com.
