Quick Cast - Magnesium Castings And Aluminium Castings In Just 5 Days From Formkon

Die-casting expert Formkon of Denmark is set to make its mark on the international market with its exciting magnesium castings and aluminium castings delivered in just 5 days - ideal for the automotive, electronics and medical industries.

Design engineers will want to cast their eye over an exciting magnesium castings and aluminium castings prototyping process which is set to make a mark on the international market.

Die-casting expert Formkon is well-known in Northern Europe for its products, having developed and manufactured a portfolio comprising more than 500 die-casting tools.

Now, after more than 15 years of success casting prototypes in its Danish prototype foundry, the company's innovative products are now available worldwide.

This is excellent news for international design engineers as few companies offer magnesium and aluminium castings that fast. With Formkon's ability to supply Quick Cast prototypes in just 5-10 days demand is expected to be high - particularly within the automotive, electronics and medical industries where speed is key.

The Quick Cast process is ideal for prototypes and smaller quantities as it does not involve capital outlay on tools.

Plus, it is based on free form modelling techniques, and therefore offers complete design freedom. Complex undercuts can be produced, and there is no requirement for draft angles, radiuses and parting line definitions.

Formkon's Quick Cast process is modelled on a 3D file, from which a sintered polystyrene model is produced on a 3D printer system. The polystyrene model is then moulded into a plaster or ceramic shell before being burnt out. Finally, vacuum is applied to the empty plaster or ceramic shell and fluid metal is poured into the cavity.

Thin walls of less than 1mm can be produced, and porosity is limited due to the application of vacuum during the casting process.

As well as magnesium and aluminium, Formkon's prototypes are available in a large variety of metals, all supplied within 5-10 working days, which is much faster compared to more traditional prototyping processes.

New and existing customers can find out all they need to know about magnesium castings and aluminium castings, including technical specifications, on Formkon's newly launched English website www.formkon.com

Formkon Partner and Project Manager Dan Nielsen, said: "We are delighted at the reception our Quick Cast process is receiving as we expand our market throughout the world. We have had huge success in Northern Europe and our focus is now on the international marketplace. We look forward to working with end-users across the globe, who we are sure will welcome the benefits of both the magnesium and aluminium prototyping processes and our excellent delivery times."
