PureVPN Urges Netizens to Use Incognito Mode With a VPN

Using Incognito Mode alone isn't enough to keep one's browsing activities entirely private. A VPN can help here.

According to a University of Chicago survey, more than 40% of respondents believed Incognito Mode conceals their location from visited websites. And over one-third were of the view that the tool safeguards their web browsing from employers.

Many people assume browsing the Internet with Incognito Mode protects their security and privacy from the prying eyes of interested third-parties. None of that’s right, of course, because Incognito Mode isn’t designed for this purpose.

What is Incognito Mode?

Incognito Mode, also commonly referred to as Private Browsing, is a feature that prevents web browsers from storing any data whatsoever. So, when a user visits a website in Incognito Mode, the browser won’t record their passwords, history, form data, cookies, etc.

Is Incognito Mode Really Private?

Not at all. Incognito Mode only keeps one’s browsing activities private from other people with access to their device. It doesn’t offer complete anonymity as websites, network administrators, and Internet Service Providers can still view what someone is doing online.

In addition, Incognito Mode doesn’t provide any protection against government surveillance or data-hungry cybercriminals. Due to this, PureVPN recommends netizens to use both a VPN and Incognito Mode together.

Why Use a VPN with Incognito Mode?

Incognito Mode allows users to surf without having any information stored on their browser – nothing more, nothing less. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) shields browsing activities and personal data from the outside world.

It creates a secure tunnel, through which all traffic is routed and encrypted. Even if someone intercepts the encrypted data, they’ll not be able to decipher it. When used in conjunction, they make the ultimate tool to ensure nobody has access to any of your private information.
