ProsurxTopical Cream Approved by Health Singapore and Now Available to Treat and Prevent Herpes Outbreaks

Health Singapore has just approved a powerful new medicine to help sufferers treat herpes outbreaks by relieving symptoms and preventing future outbreaks. Prosurx™ Topical Cream by Prosurx Nanomedicine Laboratories will help the 20 percent of Singaporeans who have to deal with outbreaks every year by easing the body’s inflammatory reaction to the virus – which creates the unsightly cold sores on the surface of the skin – and by stopping the spread of the virus, thus inhibiting further outbreaks.

During an outbreak, cold sores primarily form around the mouth, on, or nearby the lips. They can also appear on the inside edges of the nose. Sufferers face, not only the pain and discomfort of the blisters, but also the negative psychological impact. The burden of visible cold sore clusters, which can last for several days to up to two weeks at a time, can be devastating to an individual’s self-confidence. At best, herpes outbreaks cause embarrassment. At worst, the experience can trigger a sense of loneliness and depression.

With Prosurx, we've developed a treatment option that doesn't just shorten the healing time but also helps to stop the development process of the blister in the first place.

Gary Gorden, MD, dermatologist and Chief Scientist at Prosurx Nanomedicine Laboratories.

A survey published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, found that herpes, along with psoriasis, are the two most stigmatized skin conditions. These conditions cause sufferers significant physical and emotional discomfort. One of the reasons for the strong sigma, the survey discovered, is that both conditions appear contagious, while cold sores are, in fact, contagious by touch.

Kim Lanus, the Executive Director for the Singaporean Skin Patient Alliance, also known as the SSPA, says, “Much of society shuns the disease but few of us have any conception of the struggle that the many who suffer from outbreaks undergo. It is unfortunate that there is not more understanding surrounding the herpes virus as the more that individuals are encouraged to open up and reach out for help from a health professional, the more likely they will be able to gain control of their condition. There are effective treatments that can make management entirely possible.”

With the soothing and preventative benefits of Prosurx™ Topical Cream, sufferers now have access to a medically approved, effective solution to help reduce the inflammation and the recurrence of blisters, thus improving the quality of life for those who have the condition. This is a significant breakthrough as anywhere from one in five, to nearly half of all people who have the herpes simplex virus will have a recurrent outbreak. In general, individuals face from two to three every year.

Without an effective topical cream to treat an outbreak, sufferers have reported using either over-the-counter treatments or home remedies. Nearly half of individuals with the herpes virus who were surveyed said that if they could use a prescription treatment or a more effective over-the-counter medicine to apply onto the skin to help stop the blisters from forming then that would be their preference.

Right now, there are single-agent anti-viral therapies for individuals to use. The problem with this form of treatment is that it doesn’t actually reduce the inflammation. By applying the topical cream when the typical first signs of an outbreak are noticed, such as a tingling and burning of the skin, Prosurx™ Topical Cream can help to stop the blisters from forming and reduce their impact because it has both anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties.

“Our goal wasn’t just to help patients cover up their cold sores. That’s not a solution,” says Dr. Gary Gordon, MD, dermatologist and Chief Scientist at Prosurx Nanomedicine Laboratories. ”With Prosurx, we’ve developed a treatment option that doesn’t just shorten the healing time but also helps to stop the development process of the blister in the first place.”

Prosurx™ Topical Cream is now offered as an over-the-counter treatment. To learn more, speak with your doctor or other healthcare professional.
