Project PINK: A Fashion Benefit for Scholarship

Pearls III Foundation with the Rho Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is pleased to announce "Project PINK: A Fashion Benefit." The event will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010 - 1:30 pm to 5 pm at the Hyatt Regency, Capitol Hill - 400 New Jersey Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20001.
Project PINK: A Fashion Benefit and Tea will showcase the talent of four local and international designers: Heydari, Andrew Nowell Menswear, Destiny's Creations, and Corjor International. The Fashion show is being produced by Mr. Ean Williams, founder of DC FASHION WEEK. The emcees for the event will be Sheila Banks an Emmy Award-winning producer and former host for WETA and Shawn Yancy a News Anchor for WTTG-TV, FOX 5 News in Washington, DC. Project pink will also feature a private shopping experience and door prizes from several exclusive local boutiques.
Project PINK is a benefit for college scholarships and local community programs. Each year D.C. Pearls III Foundation, the fundraising arm of Rho Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., awards scholarships to graduating seniors attending a District of Columbia's public, private, and chartered high school. Each year the scholarship program recognizes outstanding seniors who exhibit scholastic excellence through involvement in extracurricular activities, essay writing, and community service. This year during Project PINK, the 2010 scholarship recipients will be recognized and celebrated for their success.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908, she is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-trained women. In Washington, DC exactly 80 years after the sorority's founders, 76 women chartered Rho Mu Omega Chapter on October 30, 1988. As a chapter, Rho Mu Omega has actively organized and participated in community and sorority activities under the various International Program themes.
Some of the chapter's many successful activities include includes awarding scholarships to high school students; sponsoring an annual black college tour; a partnership with the Luke C. Moore Academy High School, a DC public high school primarily for at-risk and non-traditional students; giving away school supplies at the National Council of Negro Women Black Family Reunion; giving contributions and volunteering at Loaves and Fishes, a church food program for the homeless; and making donations to health entities like the Whitman Walker HIV/AIDS Clinic, Autism Speaks, and Race for the Cure breast cancer awareness and research. Rho Mu Omega Chapter has also participated in providing Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets and gifts for needy families, activities with Stoddard Baptist Home, and several years of service to the Washington metropolitan area community.
