Practice Management Institute® (PMI) today announced that six of its continuing education programs for medical offices have gained approval for Continuing Medical Education Units. Another 15 core curriculum topics are presently under review.

Tina R. McIlwrath, CCMEP, Continuing Medical Education Manager for MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society spearheaded the application process that received AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

"These classes offer hands-on learning opportunities for physicians in areas that medical school does not prepare them for, such as coding and billing, allowing their main focus to remain with patient care," said McIlwrath. "I am looking forward to the continued collaboration between MedChi and PMI and the future educational opportunities this will bring."

The CME-approved classes are: ICD-10 Coding Workshop, Mastering E/M Coding, Correct Coding for Physician Services, Chart Auditing Workshop and two Coding by Specialty topics: OB/GYN, and Pediatrics. These classes are offered in hospitals, medical societies and colleges throughout the country.

McIlwrath said that she is very excited that MedChi's Committee on Scientific Activity has reviewed several PMI's courses.

"I am really looking forward to the new doors this opens for PMI and MedChi, the continued cooperation this will lead to, the fantastic learning opportunities this offers to physicians, and the improved patient care that is will result in," said McIlwrath.

MedChi is committed to CME that is evidence-based, clinically relevant to all learners, valid in content, transparent and free of bias or commercial influence, and grounded in the principles of adult learning.
