Chicago, IL September 7, 2009 -- Did you watch the Little League World Series. Did you notice the tears, stressed parents and players, over-zealous coaches, kids having fun and kids who weren't, good and bad sports coaching, and other dynamics that dominate youth sports. Now kids begin playing football and soccer and the same issues exist in all sports. Youth sports involve stressful times and positive parenting advice for these times is essential. Of course, parents and coaches are on good behavior during the little league world series, knowing they are on national TV. There are many upsetting situations that occur away from the cameras and in every day youth sports games and helping parents and kids through these situations is the reason Jack Perconte wrote Raising an Athlete.

Jack Perconte never played in the little league world series but he did play little league baseball and was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers 1981 world championship team. "I share many personal stories and real life situations in this book that provide positive parenting advice so athletes have the chance of having great sporting experiences, like I did."

What should parents do when their kid comes home crying after a game? What do they do when their child does not want to practice? When should a parent approach their child's coach and what should they say to them? What can they do to motivate their sons and daughters? How do they know if they are putting too much pressure on their young athlete? These are just some of the questions that Jack Perconte answers in Raising an Athlete - How to Instill Confidence, Build Skills and Inspire a Love of Sport. It contains parenting and sports coaching advice that will give parents tips on how to deal with the day to day issues they encounter in youth sports.
Jack Perconte further states, "Most people understand the importance of positive parenting in sports but many parents lose sight of it when their own kids are involved. Unfortunately, all too often, kids look to star athletes to be their role models when they should not have to look any further than their own homes and their own games. In Raising an Athlete I also give parents and coaches parenting advice and sports coaching tips to develop athletes to their full potential."
After 12 years in professional baseball, including seven seasons in the major leagues, Jack Perconte taught baseball and softball for nineteen years. Jack has followed up his first book The Making of a Hitter: A Proven and Practical Step-by-Step Baseball Guide with another instructional guide for parents, coaches and sports enthusiasts. Raising an Athlete is published by Second Base Publishing and is distributed by IPG of Chicago with a publication date of September 1, 2009.
