Portable Eye Tracker For Laptops: SMI Launches Smallest RED-M

SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) introduces SMI RED-m, the world's smallest high performance eye tracking lab for research applications

SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI), for more than 20 years a world leader in eye tracking technology, today launches the SMI RED-m, a fully portable, high-performance remote eye tracking device. At a size of 24cm x 2.5cm x 3.3cm and weighing only 130g it can be used with desktop, laptop and tablet PCs. The plug and play design enables researchers to study visual perception wherever participants are.

The portability and flexibility of the SMI RED-m makes it easy to conduct market research studies at public sites, research in clinical environments, test interactive learning technologies at educational institutes or conduct in-home research. The device runs via a single USB port of a desktop, laptop or tablet computer and needs no additional power supply. Combined with SMI Experiment Suite 360° software for experimental design and analysis, the system is a ready to go portable eye tracking lab solution.

The SMI RED-m is designed for eye tracking researchers who require maximum mobility and flexibility combined with reliable data and the comprehensive set of features and metrics of a scientific grade eye tracker. High quality gaze and pupil data at a sampling rate of 60Hz and 120Hz ensure accurate and reliable results. The contact-free SMI RED-m uses automatic eye acquisition and head movement compensation technology which allows for large freedom of movement of participants in front of the eye tracker. With a magnetic snap-on connector it attaches easily to a desktop PC monitor or tablet PC. Alternatively, the balanced design snuggly positions the RED-m on a personal laptop. Watch Video
Andreas Thoelke, CTO Eye Square GmbH: "We recognize the RED-m is specifically designed to be minimally invasive in the respondents' visual field and to be attached to even small laptops with minimal effort. Despite its small and unobtrusive build we were impressed to see a tracking data quality that is comparable to a full size remote eyetracker."

"Leveraging all our know-how, the RED-m comes in an unprecedented form-factor with scientific grade data quality that allows us to address completely new markets and research fields." says Christian Villwock, Director of SMI's Eye and Gaze Tracking Systems business.
