Pontus Completes Dealership Acquisition

In February 2017, Pontus Capital completed the last transaction in a $71 million sale-leaseback on a portfolio of six auto dealerships (Toyota, Nissan, Chrysler, Infiniti, Hyundai and VW) in California.  The closings was staggered to meet the seller’s objectives and was a part of the tenant’s recapitalization and growth initiative.

The tenant selected Pontus after exploring other avenues to recapitalize their business due to Pontus’ structural flexibility, certainty of execution and ability to meet the seller’s timeline and sales proceeds.   As a part of its purchase, Pontus provided 100% construction financing to fund the expansion and reimaging of several properties.  Scott Stokas, Partner at Pontus commented, “We are excited to complete this acquisition of a quality real estate portfolio with a growing, top tier automotive dealership group.  Here, our flexibility and ability to act quickly and customize a deal structure to our tenant’s needs, contributed to a successful outcome and a favorable long-term solution for our tenant.  A solution that allowed the tenant to grow their business and to fortify their balance sheet at the same time.”  The dealerships are located in California and are 100% leased under a long term, triple net master lease agreement.
