PODS Houston Provides Logistical Solutions for 2012 London Olympic Marathon Trials
Online, January 20, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Chevron Houston Marathon organizers are praising the logistical support donated by PODS Houston that helped two recent marathons run more smoothly and efficiently for hundreds of competitive runners.
On the weekend of Jan. 14-15, the local moving and storage company stepped up to support the 2012 Olympic Marathon trials and Chevron Houston Marathon after learning about the storage challenges faced by the marathon staff when orchestrating two races in two days.
PODS sponsored the race as well as devised a logistical plan that lined the race routes with 23 donated PODS® containers that served as water and volunteer stations and housed equipment and other resources, saving the event over $10,000 in storage, delivery and labor costs.
"We were honored to help the Chevron Houston Marathon organizers by providing our unique logistical services to make this year's event even better and simply doing what PODS does best," said Phil Dvorak, managing partner of PODS Houston. "Previously, they were renting trucks, flatbeds and other expensive equipment along with hiring crews to set up and clean up which allowed them zero room for error. Our donation allowed the marathon committee the ability to take their time and load the PODS® containers at their leisure at their own warehouse."
"We are so thankful for the generous support from PODS Houston this year - it helped to make both races a real success," said Larry Stryk, member of the Chevron Houston Marathon committee. "Without their storage and delivery support, coordinating volunteers and providing resources for our runners would have been nearly impossible."
Now in its 40th year, the Chevron Houston Marathon is held annually and open to 24,000 participants.
Prior to the marathon and held on the same course, the 2012 London Olympic Marathon trials played host to more than 300 men and women racing for the 3 spots available for the 2012 games. This event marked the first time in the country that American men and women competitors raced on the same day and course. For more information, visit www.houston2012.com.
