Photofest Queretaro 2014, 3rd Edition: The Power of Photography

Online, March 8, 2014 (Newswire.com) - For third consecutive year Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Festival, Photofest, will be presented in the city of Queretaro, Mexico. From March 10th through March 16th, Queretaro's downtown will turn into the capital of photography.

This festival cures its third edition from recognizing the power of photography. A photograph can be so powerful to change the course of a person, community and nation and thus change the course of history.

Photojournalism and documentary photography have given us all iconic images making photographs illustrate different stories of humanity, giving them an extra value.

Photofest 2014 will feature major agencies like National Geographic; it will also present a total of 6 exhibitions. Among the exhibitions is the work of Mexican photographer Narciso Contreras, who won the Pulitzer Prize for journalism.

This year exhibitions are unique as though all of them have never been exposed before in the world, and some of them will never be exposed again. Exhibitions may be admired for free on the streets and plazas of Queretaro's downtown, World Heritage. The exhibitions will represent the different branches of "the power of Photography" such as: TESTIFY, FIND, PROTECT, REMEMBER, CELEBRATE and REVEAL.

In addition to the exhibitions Photofest also has a Photography contest, which is already closed, lectures from different and recognized Photographers such as Stephen Mayes and Ron Haviv from VII Photo agency. These features add to the surprising Photofest Park, an outdoor cinema where citizens and tourists may enjoy from the digital exhibitions and documentaries shown in one of the downtown's biggest plaza.

This year Photofest is expecting more than 80 thousand visitors to its exhibitions. Therefore breaking their last year record of 78 thousand visitors.

'Women of Vision' exposition is the work of 11 of the most recognized women photographers in the world. The take photographs for Nat geo. This project is born from the need of recognizing the tuned and particular vision of the women photographer in the world.

REVEAL > Ocean Soul, National Geographic > Photographs by Brian Skerry, cured by Brian Skerry

Brian Skerry is a submarine photographer whom along his career has photographed dozens of stories for Nat Geo. Ocean Soul is collection of images that Brian has selected from his multiple projects to show the world this secret world.

FIND > Found, National Geographic Celebrating 125 years > Cured by Bill Bonner and Janna Dotscal

Found is a selection of photographs cured from the archives of Nat Geo. Honoring its 125 anniversary, it shows a collection of culture and past moments. Most of these photographs have never been published and the public has rarely seen them.

PROTECT > Narciso Contreras Mexican Photojournalist and Pulitzer Prize 2013 > Cured by Narciso Contreras and Photofest

Narciso was born in Mexico City; he is compromised with exploring those touching moments he captures through his lens.
His work is focused in telling stories through documentaries, based in religious communities, human nature and conflicts.
