PEMCO Agency Takes Responsibility and Wins 2009 NFIP Agency of the Year
Online, May 3, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Seattle, WA, May 3, 2010- PEMCO Insurance Agency was recently named 2009 Agency of the Year by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) at its annual convention in San Diego. PEMCO earned the honor for its efforts to inform, educate, and help property owners at risk from the weakened Howard Hanson Dam in Washington State. The agency is a subsidiary of PEMCO Mutual Insurance Company, Washington's largest local insurer.
"When the dam leak was discovered, we knew flood insurance would be the best protection for all those properties at risk, and we wanted to reach out to help the owners," said PEMCO's Barbara Roberts. Her eight-person PEMCO Insurance Agency team took the initiative to contact thousands of at-risk property owners to explain the protection offered by federal flood insurance. The response was tremendous: Over 800 personal dwellings are now newly covered for flood loss, prompting the 2009 NFIP Agency of the Year recognition.
The award is given annually to recognize community outreach by insurance agencies to spread awareness of flood risk, and to recognize dedication to the goals of the NFIP during the past year. PEMCO was one of two award winners nominated by Fidelity National Property and Casualty Insurance Group, the nation's largest provider of flood insurance.
